Can I run standalone OpenGL on a Radeon with this?
Yes. Note that there is some hand tweaking of
makefiles to achieve a full opengl -- we're targeting an embedded subset in the
standard build.
I pulled the embedded-1-branch, was this the right one? I just finished building it without problems. Is there any kind of demo for it, like an SDL wrapper?
There is a stubbed out glut layer that has no input handling. A few glut applications are built by default & those should run fine.
How do I do the tweak?
I'll commit something (maybe start a new branch?) tomorrow. In the meantime look at the makefile in the src/drv/radeon directory - you may or may not be able to figure it out.
Could this be used as a base for running an XFree that has been modified to not have any video hardware drivers and that maps the 2D functions onto the DRI interface? In other words, pull DRI out of X and into a standalone Mesa, then use standalone Mesa as a platform for running X? A split X would allow the IHV to focus on the Mesa platform.
Anything's possible, but it would be a fair chunk of work.
