OK, if you cut the wires in the middle and leave the connectors intact, and do a good job, I agree that reliability should be OK. You will probably lose some shielding, and may cause a little interference to nearby radio or TV receivers, but with hobbies like yours you probably don't have much time for radio or TV anyhow (I know I'm the same way). But now you're going to have this ugly LUMP in the middle of your cable. I hope you at least spend a few bucks at Radio Shack to cover it with some nice-looking heat-shrinkable tubing! > I don't know what litz wires are, but I'll look it up.
