Probably not at all, if I do a good job.
For the litz wire, I have a solder dip bath, which I use for stripping
of magnet wires when I wind solenoids. Even if the wires are
individually coated, as some one said, it won't be too much of a
problem. I hope that I don't have to fire it up though--seems like over
kill. I have soldered a few audio cables with this type of wires. It
seems that enough heat and the proper flux will solve this one. You can
burn off the insulation with an open flame (match).
Ref. the lump, you can pretty much eliminate it by off-setting the
joints a few millimeters--an old trick for those of us who has done this
for a few times. It's all in the workmanship.
Shielding, of course, is pretty simple, just some foil wrapping before
the heat shrink tubing. I can add a ferrite noise suppressor if it
improves the performance.
Will let y'all know. It seems simpler than replacing the surface mount
fuse on the Comet's I/O board,which I've done a couple of times. At
least the risk factor is much, much lower. My wife was looking over my
shoulder when I was doing that one to make sure I do a good job.
