I thought we kinda beat this to death just a few weeks ago? :-)

If you really want 7.6...run 7.6.1.  It was arguably the most stable 
of the 7.x series and was the first system installed on the 
2400s...at least the early ones.  The CD did have 8.0 on it.  That 
said, 8.6 is still the way to go, unless system size is a significant 
issue...or you just have to run some software that isn't supported in 
8.6.
