>>> Dear Gurus, >>> Can a 2400 with a newer 240 G3 upgrade run OS 7.6? >>> Donald McCaig
OK, finally tried out System 7.6.1 on a 2400c/Newer G3-240 with Newer driver extensions loaded. I'm happy to say it works just fine and quite fast. The Finder zipped right along, despite a slow HD. I was running 166 extensions, including some RD/SD, Now Utilities, CC4.x DiskDoubler/AutoDoubler etc. 761 occupied 12.6 mb ram, booted in 1 min and opened WriteNow 4 in 1 sec, Excel 4 in 3 sec, Photoshop in 8 sec from DD compressed format on an 820 mb HD (Toshiba external 2.5" SCSI, ADB powered) with only 7 mb free space. Possible downsides might be less optimized power management of battery, possibly higher operating temp of CPU, Open Transport issues and inability to recognize HFS+ format. But I guarantee a G3-240 user will feel like (s)he's running at 500 mhz! My typical 2400 OS 8.6 or 9.1 system will occupy 28-32 mb ram with 169 extensions on CC8.x and take 3 min to boot. ---------- Duo/2400 List, The friendliest place on the Net!
