Well, the cd drive now works thanks to Greg and my
dilligence at digging through the boxes in the closet
to find the third party driver on floppy disk. I feel
kinda dumb for not realizing to flip the switch on the
scsi plug. I don't know if I need TomeViewer to
install enough program to make the airport work.
Turns out that the documentation on the Airport cd
walks through a setup to use the airport base station
with a non-airport-capable computer (my 2400 and
farallon 11mps card) that uses os9.0. Now my problem
seems to be the airport base station. I prevously set
it up with my iBook including setting the password
for encryption and now I can't remember the password
(I just upgraded to REALLY dumb). On the 2400, the
Airport admin Utility does NOT see it under "select
base station" (for configuration), however the
Farallon wireless configuration "sees" it under the
network/basestation name that I gave it (via the
iBook). I seem to remember that with encryption
enabled (as I did earlier) the network will not be
"seen" in the list of available base stations by the
laptop. I guess that had I not done the previous
configuration it would show up on the list. Now
here's the really silly part. I tried to create an
ad-hoc configuration on the iBook before switching
back to the basestation and now I need the password to
link with it. I tried to reset the basestation in
hopes of erasing the previous parameters but that
didn't do it and I need the old paswword to make a new
configuration in the airport setup utility on the
iBook. So now I'm on the internet by a 56k modem in
my TAM...no wandering allowed.

It's all kind of funny in a pull-your-hair-out sorta
way, huh?

Paul
