Hi All! Thanks to those who contributed to this string so far. With the help pf Greg's email I was able to use the external CD on my 2400 (NICE!) I found Apple's text file on using Airport with non-airport-capable machines (ie the 2400). I was able to bypass using tome (the original info I was using was for installation of airpart 1.2 on os8.6). In os9.0 I was instructed to just move the Airport Admin Utility v2.0 file onto my harddrive. That included the library extension. Now that was how I remembered doing it about a year ago. However this time while the wireless configuration screen supplied by Farallon does recognize the Airport base station (with a weak signal from 3 rooms away I might add) the Select Base Station window from Apple Airport 2.0 (or 1.2...I tried both) doesn't list the basestation after scanning for it...and rescanning...and rescanning...and rescanning) Now there is a choice for "other" in that window where the IP address is supplied and unchangeable (in my experience) as "10.0.1.1" You just add the password "public". Unfortunately (see Bob's reply to this string) the SNOW basestation will not work with Farallon. Now I read somewhere in the directions from when I set the basestation up originally with the iBook that if the station was step included encrytion it would be "hidden" from selection lists. Last week I realized that I forgot the original password but have recently solved that problem and it is now set to "public". If the basestation is not showing up on the list because it is "hidden" it stands to reason the if I choose "other" and enter "public" as the correct password then it should work. So i find out from the 'select base station" screen in my ibook that the IP for the snow base station is 10.0.1.1 and "public" is the password and everything is easily identified from the ibook...but not from the powerbook 2400. The ONLY thing that is different from the last time that I tried this a year ago is the SNOW BASE STATION. No disrespect to Bob but $399 for a second WiFi setup creates a little denial when someone tells you about an incompatability with 3rd party items THAT ARE SUPPOSED TO WORK!!!!!!!!!!!! Of course I wasted much time this weekend trying to find incompatability issues on the PROXIM SKYLINE WEBSITE to no avail. And of course I did give my graphite base station to my dad because he bought a new iMac and I wanted him to upgrade to wireless...so now I guess he upgrades to 128 encryption. My last ditch effort is to "uncheck" the WEP box on the iBook to reconfigure that into the snow base station and see if that does anything although I doubt it.
Well, that's all for now from sunny California by the bay... Paul (ps: pls pardon any typos as I find that there is a correlation between frustration and fine motor control. --- ELN/rlf9 <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Duo/2400 List wrote... > > >From: Paul Miller <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > >Subject: [Duo2400] WIRELESS HELP NEEDED PLEASE!! > > > > > >Hello all, > > > >Glad I'm still on the list when frustrating moments > >like this happen.
