A note on the backup battery thing: With some G3 upgrades, you cannot
sleep the machine and switch main batteries unless you are plugged into AC
power, no matter how good the backup battery is. Within a second or two of
removing the main battery, the sleep light will stop blinking, and will
never wake up again. You may have to use the power manager button on back
to get the machine to power up.
This happens on my 2400 with a Newer 240/1M upgrade. At first I thought it
was the backup battery, but when I removed the backup battery and tested
it, it was in great shape. I later found out (wish I could remember where)
that this is a problem caused by the G3 upgrade. (And come to think of it,
I'd appreciate it if anybody else with a G3 upgrade can tell me if they
have the same problem. Naturally, if you try the experiment, quit all
applications so the only thing open is the Finder, minimizing the risk of
data loss.)
