Thanks very much for your most interesting post Pete. Indeed I had a bunch of devices including duplicates of the CyberPro PCI 4S 4 port serial board. Apparently I made an error when installing the board.
One good thing is I found a second serial header on the motherboard. However I still have not gotten CAT to work. I'm going to swap in my spare Mark V - perhaps the CAT port is bad. I'll make a note of that clever devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1 line. It will probably come in handy in the future. Jim thanks for the heads up on the many more com ports in DX4Win v8. It would have saved me a lot of trouble but when I saw the business of requiring Admin mode to install (and run?) and placing DX4W in the root directory (both big nonos for me) I lost interest. Also I'm running out of time to learn and convert data for DX4W 8.
