I had a computer crash and downloaded a new copy of DXbase.
When I double click my registration key, Windows opens it with Notepad, and all
I get is a text file with the registration key contents.
How can I disable the Notepad opening so I can get my key into the registry
when I double click?

Right click the registration file then click "merge" in the list that pops
up.
To keep this from happening in the future with this and other registry files
You can right click the file then click on "Open With" then in the list that
pops
Up select "Registry Editor" and at the bottom of this window put a check in
the
Box labeled "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file."
Then click
OK
