I'm not sure I understand :
what do you checkout, when you have just created the project on your workstation, and
it has not yet been imported into the CVS
repository?

Alain,
I don't feel the need for other cvs operations from IDEA. I need it only
to update my files, not to manage a repository!!

I work this way :
I use cvs checkout to create a local copy of the repository.
Then I run IDEA's project wizard and select project dirs and src dirs
appropriately.
Finally, I enable cvs on the IDEA project.

Et voila'.
