You need static routes if you have some special needs; what I mean, in your setup there's just one router that act as a default gateway, and you have no VPN connections, so there shouldn't be any extra static routes other than your default gateway.

How are you using it ?

It depends on the server role. I have a line that act as a communication gateway, and they have two NICs that work like a charm. I think that you're having issues with some minor configuration mistake.
