I'm not sure if your being sarcastic or serious. Forgive me if I read you
wrong.
But it is naive to say that women can choose when to have sex with their
husbands just as it is naive to say that Catholic women who have been
brought up with the idea that they cannot use contraception - that they
should just do it. We need to be aware of the social pressures on people
to act in a certain way. Women have been under, and still are under
enormous pressure to procreate. Many still believe and indeed vow
(marriage) to obey their husbands. To a lot of women this means that they
must have sex with their husband when he wants it and their feelings about
it don't count or are wrong, or they may even believe theyre insane.
We need to empower womyn to make choices in their lives. All womyn need
to have the knowledge that they are worthwhile on their own, whether or not
they have a man. We can do something in this process. We can fight for
legal and safe abortion. We can demand safe contraception. We can join in
in the strategy against domestic violence. If there isn't one then maybe
we can start one - eg.getting community awareness that dv is a crime. Many
women don't know this. We cannot start to help the situation by blaming
women because they have babies. Blame is a violence that continues the
circle of violence. We need to have compassion for all the people in the
sitution. 'respect your enemy to allow him/her the ability to change sides
without loss of face' Ghandi.
Remember,
The ends and means are the same. Ghandi.
Thankyou for listening.
