Hello, I work as a contractor for the Environmental Protection Agency, which has provided me with both insight to working as a contractor and as a government employee. My experience has been that contracting provides a great deal of flexibility in the workplace. Employees that work on the contract have flex-time, and most telecommute daily. Further, while we do have deadlines, those deadlines can be quite negotiable.
On the other hand, your job stability is tenuous at times, as you have to continue winning the contract when it comes up for rebid and you are at the mercy of federal funding. If the government shuts down, so do we! Moncie Wright Staff Scientist, Cambridge Environmental
