I received a private reply related to this thread, and offer these
additional thoughts on ASx certification.

The typical model with other protocols is to conduct
vendor-interoperability summits - "bake offs" is what they are sometimes
called, where the vendors test with other vendors to work out problems and
verify interoperability. Buyers can then review vendor performance during
these events and make buying decisions accordingly. The trade press also
frequently does this kind of product testing and reporting. This is the
industry norm, and it seems to work very well. I fail to see why
EDIINT/ASx should be such a gross exception.

I have a great deal of difficulty believing that the supposed benefits that
the eBusiness Ready model provides over this industry norm justifies its cost.

Perhaps it is up to the product vendors to take SoftShare's lead and refuse
to continue to participate in this extortion.
