No specifics, but this dovetails on my twenty-plus years experience working with (ANSI and EDIFACT) EDI ... That first transaction with that first partner is darned expensive. Between translation software, mapping software, VAN contracts and professional assistance to get the whole thing set up and running, the 'entry level' number I use for that first transaction set with the first partner is ten thousand dollars ($10,000.00). (The second transaction is a LOT less expensive) This number puts "In house EDI" out of the reach of many, many small businesses who want to do EDI-based business with only one or two customers. ( Explains the existence of service bureaus, for sure). No small wonder to me that with low-cost (FTP) data transmission now available, looking at something other than "traditional" (whatever that means) EDI is essentially a step every business simply must undertake.
