Some people blow SOX out of proportion, which creates a new position for
consultants to "explain" SOX and optimize the process of compliance.
I've seen companies spend thousands when, with good information, would
not need to.

SOX itself is rather vague. Make sure the real impact is known. With
good well documented security and data procedures backed up with your
company doing what those procedures says it does (such as the SAS 70
report (type I and II), you'll be fine.

There's more to SOX depending on what business sector your in, but the
point is let's not get carried away with something that really is
designed to protect investors.

never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never,
never, never, never, never
change the data. you should know better! does the mailman read your
magazines before he
delivers them? and, under sox, you probably can't even look at the
production data. it's a new
world out there. and, if you reject the data, you can't repair and
remap it ... your partner gets
to resend it. this is where use of a van is good (they can filter the
data in network) or bad
(ya gotta pay to send the data twice. i hope it's not an 832 or 852.)

consider yourself smacked.
