You have to be careful... It's not how large the transactions are. You probably mean the total amount of traffic, measured in Kilobits. You could have a jumbo ASN sent once a season. That's not 'large'. Since VANs usually charge by the Kilobit, you want to analyse your current volume and estimate how much money it's costing you now. I am currently using IP*Works from nsoftware for my clients. For a single user, it's FREE (http://www.freeas2.com/ ) In order to add an additional license, you have to pay $600.00 USD for 5 licenses. That's $500.00 for the software and $100.00 for the maintenance. After that, it's $100.00 per year to be able to get updates. In the 2nd year, your cost is only $50.00 (2 TPs) to $20.00 (5 TPs) per TP (depending on how many TPs you have) In some cases, I've started with the free version and when necessary, I've asked the client to purchase the 5 license version. Some TPs may require 2 licenses ;-( (ie. Test and production) I would use the openas2 software, but I'm not familiar enough with Java, it's not 'Drummond certified' (what a lot of BS) and I don't mind spending the additional $$ to get some support. For this price, you get email support. Your additional cost would be your time to install and setup. You need a PC that is on 24/7. You need a fixed IP or a dynamic IP URL. You may need a port to be opened in your firewall. You have to generate and exchange security certificates on a regular basis (eg. every few years). Finally, you have to integrate IP*Works with your existing system. IP*Works requires a different folder for each TP, so you may have to write some scripts to move files around. You compare the AS2 cost (software & labour) against the current VAN charges to see what your savings (if any) are... If you are doing a lot of volume with a TP, then converting to AS2 may save you a lot of money...
