I cost out my department's contribution to the company and for an
average of 50 cents a transaction they push close to 60 million
dollars of wholesale transactions through the EDI system in just the
second half of the year. For that they get translation, communication
(VAN charges included), software, support, servers, backups, rea
estate and utility use of our offices and best of all staff who are on
call 24 x 7 and who will stay to figure out the weird stuff, help them
set up their side of the business and use their brains in service of
the best interests of the business.

That's a bargain. You can't pay a wholesale rep to answer the phone
and say hello for 50 cents. They spend their time selling (computers
don't sell) and we process data.
