And this is why EDI folks are so multi-talented...we not only have to perform
actual EDI functions but we have to hunt down requirements regardless of how
many sales/project managers have already spent a month with them
explaining/promising results sans requirements. But I digress...

If I were you, I would punt this back to sales or the buyer and tell them that
you cannot move forward without the account number, contact information, etc.
In email. With date that info is needed in order for you to reach the deadline.
Then let those that own that vendor to actually own it and get the info needed
to comply with EDI requirements. ;) when you are questioned, produce email.

Ryan,
Why is your sales rep dealing with vendors? Shouldn't they be selling to
customers? Have you tried googling? Have you tried explaining to the people
at
the 800 number that you are the customer and they are the vendor and perhaps
they can refer you to a different department, one that is interested in selling
whatever it is they sell? Have you mentioned this problem to whoever gave you
this number?

Leah

Subject: [EDI-L] Ingram Micro

Would anyone have a contact at Ingram Micro that would be willing to
answer a few questions? We were given 1-800-616-4665 by our sales rep
but when we call that number they will not answer any questions without
us giving them an account number. We have not setup an account with
them because we need to verify their EDI support before we bring them on
as a vender. All we get from sales is "Unfortunately without an Ingram
account our EDI department cannot assist" I find it a bit nuts.

Cheers

Ryan
