I'm a little confused as to how SPS has suddenly jumped into this conversation
thread...?

Other than using (at least from what I remember) Loren Data as their network,
SPS Commerce has nothing to do with Loren. They're separate companies....

But, it may well be true, as James mentions, that SPS Commerce will be lost
if/when GXS cuts ties to Loren Data's network. Maybe that's what a lot of GXS'
blustering is all about - getting their hands on the data transmitted via SPS
(which, arguably is one of the largest web-based EDI solution providers) and
the client/customer base? Since SPS has swallowed up smaller fish (such as
Owens Direct and others) over the years, and GXS has swallowed up smaller fish
(again, over the years), it may be that GXS' decisions are solely based upon
becoming a huge fish and hoping that people will be happy with "quantity over
quality"....

As for everybody switching to AS2 (as was mentioned in another post), that's
not really feasible for a lot of companies, even if just based upon volume.
One issue I've often had with AS2 is that it's kind of an "always on" data
flow, leaving you little/no chance of stopping data that may be incorrect
before it's sent over the line.

There will always be a need for different choices (as has been mentioned in
another thread about what do you want from your VAN) based upon service, price
and all the rest. If GXS takes over the (EDI) world, there will be no choices,
you just have to accept their bad service, their prices and all the rest...
Kind of like AT&T just a few dozen years back before they were broken up
because they monopolized telephone services.... Hmmmm...

Food for thought...?
