EDI, like many highly technical, forward-leaning technologies draws a large amount of interest during its growth. However, as standards mature, technology stabilizes, and adoption becomes pervasive, you will see that innovation begins to slow. The implementation becomes less about programming unique, customized solutions, and more about the implementation of a service.
Since there is less innovation, less dramatic growth, and less technical skills required for the average installation, interest in the community as a whole will decline. Of course, this has nothing to do with EDI; this occurs all the time. It used to be cool. Now it is just a part of the world we live in.
