Fisher also founded modern population genetics, which led to much more
rapid improvement of crops and livestock and our understanding of natural
selection. Among biologists, the founding event is recognized in Fisher's
Fundamental Theorem of Natural Selection, Selectibility is proportional
to genetic variance. His multidementional thinking, that led to ANOVA,
perhaps then triggered the theorem.
Fisher favored natural selection and differed from Sewall Wright, who
considered genetic drift and other processed also important. Much is
made of their apparent differences by others, but not by them. Fisher's
historical importance in biology is overlooked in "The Lady Tasting Tea,"
perhaps because the author is a statistician.
