I have an older K3 (ser. 0007!) which only has an RS232 port. It connects
directly to an RS232 port on the computer (Win 10), though I have also
used a USB-serial converter. This provides the radio control. The K3 is
well-supported in N1MM.
For keying I use a Winkey USB. This (obviously) has a USB connection to
the computer, which is recognized by N1MM.
In the past I allowed N1MM to generate the CW and keyed the K3 via the
DTR line. But results were not good if the computer was busy getting
spots via the internet.
