I really like the Sony MDR 7506 for <$100 that I believe you use for music listening but it also has no mic.

Yes, but -- they are overkill for use in a ham station, mics are likely to be pro electrets, and thus complicated to hook up to a ham rig. And, BTW, until you spend pretty big bucks, they're not all that comfortable either!
