I hate to add to the bombardment of emails you must be getting relative to the K3 but can I assume it will be considered as a base station unit rather than a field unit due to current draw??

We kept the K3 physically small make it very portable, especially when you compare it to other elite-class radios.

Any figures on current draw yet??? Just wondering about portable ops...perhaps my K2 will still be tops for portable/battery use.

Rx current is under 1 A. Not in the K2 class, but reasonable for many portable situations.

The K2 remains an excellent choice for many purposes. Its small size and careful attention to details specifically to support operation from an internal battery keep it in a class of its own.

Personally, I'm keeping my K2 in addition to my K3!

I'll be operating my K3 at W7S (Salmoncon) as a battery-powered radio with a Buddipole antenna system the weekend of July 6-9. And using the internal PSK encoder and decoder to use this mode without a laptop or other attached computer :-)
