Unless I'm mistaken, aren't the PPs on the the cable when you receive it anyway (I don't remember seeing anything about assembling them in the manual)?
I confirm soldering works great, just be careful to get a good flow of molten solder, but not enough to run out of the contact end and onto the actual wiping contact. For what its worth, I have converted all my 12v power to use PPs, I even took the Molex connector off the Yaesu FT-857 and replaced with PP (why didn't I do what a lot of people have done and put PPs on the fly lead? Because the Molex connector had an intermittent connection, not to mention it being about twice the size). To this end, I bought a West Mountain Pro crimper from Quicksilver Radio Products (http://www.qsradio.com/, I found them to be very good) because I had so many to do.
