Yep, I just got the skinny on the problem. I called Earthlink to see what they send to Windows users. He recently switched to Earthlink and installed their software. Before that their wasn't a problem. I wasn't entirely sure what that meant but now I see that Earthlink does indeed offer their own version of a mail and web client. It sounds roughly akin to Netscape communicator with web and mail rolled into one window. Not really my cup 'o tea. And no, according to the tech support guy, it dose not have an option to turn off the HTML coding. I sent a long and gentle explanation off to my uncle. I have a brother also on the west coast who will stop by next week. It's all out of my hands. We shall see.
