David, I am absolutely dumbfounded -- David, you are right though there is a bit more to the story as I unearthed it out just now with Earthlink. Earthlink's software 5.0.7 in fact has no way to NOT send HTML email. That' s right, "formatted email" (i.e., HTML) cannot be turned off in Earthlink 5.0.7 software. However, here's the good news and the bad news. Earthlink 5.0.7 software is short-lived and is being superseded by Earthlink 2003 for Windows software which most definitely does have the ability to send plain-text email though HTML is the default setting. Earthlink 2003 for Windows software is presently available for download -- that's the good news. The bad news is that it is ONLY available via download right now and the CD is not scheduled for availability until late September. Apparently no one at Earthlink with enough clout and savvy was aware of the fact that many email lists do not accept posts when the email is HTML. Period. Paragraph. No Way. Nada. Forget it. Such emails are simply bounced! I suppose only a limited number of users of Earthlink 5.0.7 software will try to post to the email lists that do not accept HTML email but even a few is too many! I'm sure not many list moms will be aware of this bizarre situation and will be rather curt with these poor unfortunate folks who made a mistake by getting a Windows machine and then compounded that mistake with Earthlink 5.0.7 software. Thus, the only way out of the morass is for some fairly knowledgeable and adept person to download Earthlink 2003 for Windows software, burn a CD and do the Good Samaritan thing of installing it for those needy Windows users who require this kind of help. I was not able to learn if there are any gotchas involved with installing Earthlink 2003 for Windows on top of Earthlink 5.0.7. I by nature do not believe in conspiracy theories, I find reality bizarre enough all by itself. However, in this case I'd be willing to make an exception since Earthlink's browser and email software package is presumably turnkey from Netscape which is part of AOL-Time Warner.
