This is not an either/or. The mail is sorted, prioritized, etc., _plus_
the Auto File Log gives one a quick way to scan for things that need to
be dealt with now. Delete the log, and everything else is as you describe.

Well, I think that's half right. ;-) Sorting in folders is done in the
folders, not just in the AutoFile Log. Folders can be sorted any which
way you like. The Auto File Log does, however, let one view the new ones
(read or unread) as they come in, or at least since the last time the
user physicall viewed what has come in.
I think that to whatever extent the Auto File Log was not popular, it's
because of how many people misunderstand what it can be used for.
Clearly, those of us who "get it," and whose styles match its
functionality, really don't want to do without it.
