I run a mail database of over 80Mb with no such problems.
I dont belive this is a size related problem at all.
You have something corrupted in the system somewhere.
I would be tempted to replace the application itself if previous offered 
fixes dont work.
Make sure you do the F5 thing when you strat it up though.
