Maybe the sign that it's time to update to 1.1.4 (probably somewhere on Apple's
support pages). I don't know if that would solve those problems though.

Nisus Email

Very strange program, but has fans (people who like it very much, not rotating wings
-- it's not THAT strange).

Almost no interface (no database because the file system does that, no messages
manager because the Finder does that, no search feature because Sherlock does that,
even no need for the integrated text editor because any other app does that). Sends
messages in no time from any app, stores as standard files, etc.

There might be a similar shareware program named "Finder Mail" or something.

>* DOES NOT understand, or at least can be configured to NOT understand
>HMTL

Nisus Email lets you decide what you do with the filed messages and can convert HTML
to text.

And it lets you check the messages on the server before downloading them, so you can
as well delete spam there.

>* is NOT a microsoft product

Nisus is the refuge of anti-M$ activists who promote the remarkable text processor
Nisus Writer, which among other things provides:
- maybe 10 times the speed of MS Word, like most non-M$ programs
- fat macro and search/replace features
- incredible drawing abilities (I was tempted to demonstrate the color theory using
only Nisus Writer's various abilities to blend overlapping shapes and text colors, at
a time when even Illustrator didn't have plug-ins for that yet)
- a terrific file format (at least old versions I checked) which stores pure TEXT in
the data fork and everything else in the ressource fork, meaning ANY app on ANY
platform can at least read the text, very mac-like (somewhat similar to SimpleText's
way of separating text and formatting/images/sounds etc.), very unlike anything M$
ever did.
- a free lite version

>* gives me at *least* the filtering/filing capabilities of emailer
>* will give me a synopsis (summary) of what email was filed where

I didn't investigate that, maybe it would require the use of AppleScript and Folder
Actions to manage that from the Finder.

>* has a simple to use interface.

Almost none, should be simple. Not pretty though (too bad they can't draw attractive
icons and buttons, they should ask IconFactory).

>* is either Classic compatable, or OSX native

Both.

>* a spell cheker would be nice - but is not required.

Well, if any of your apps has one, then Nisus Email has one.

As well as ASCII art capabilities if you use an ASCII art editor, regular expressions
search/replace if you use BBEdit, etc.

>basically I am sayng:
>"... I WANT MY EMAILER..." to work in OSX

Emailer 2 does, but doesn't store messages as individual files anymore (I missed that
too).

My guess is that you should try Nisus Email. BTW it knows SMTP authorization too.
