I don't like it, but I receive legitimate email in HTML all the time. A university where I teach part-time send email to faculty in HTML. If I want to keep working there, I can't very well refuse their mail. Much, but not all, of the email I get from a brother-in-law comes in HTML, although he claims not to know why it does.
