Thanks Lew... although Chris beat you to it!(g) The man =never= sleeps... Turns out the "Compress" box was =already= unchecked -- apparently the changed preferences controls that. However when I queued the post to be sent to Jen and Keith I got a warning that a file attachment being sent via the 'Net =requires= that one of the available encoding schemes be utilized... and when I queued the post and then opened it sure enough the "encoding" shown was "Default" (which appears to be .sit). So I selected AppleDouble -- seeing as one recipient uses a Windoze laptop -- and it was accepted. Thanks for the response. -- Selah!
