I'm typing my email from my daughter's new eMac for the reason in the paragraph below, relating to my 6400.
I took all the best parts of the two 6400/180 computers that we had to make a computer I could use. I already had a Sonnet G3 L2 card, and the maximum RAM in mine, but my daughter had the better monitor, and my floppy drive had died. Also, she had been running off the Geoport for internet stuff, and I had a Global Village 56K external modem. Since I couldn't figure out how to remove the Geoport (even after a look at the 6400 Zone) I hit on the idea of putting the motherboard from my 6400, complete with G3 card and memory and external modem into the tower from my daughter's 6400, with the working floppy drive. I clean installed OS 8.6 and the G3 card software, and basically the computer runs well...EXCEPT... I can't make an internet connection. If I try to connect from the Remote Access control strip module, I get no response, after the following message - "Please enter your Remote Access password if you have one. Otherwise click OK". When I click OK, the box disappears, no further message, and no further response from the computer to make an internet connection. If I go to the Remote Access control panel to connect from there, I get the following - "The connection attempt failed. The port may be in use by another application. Check for other uses of the port, like a fax receiving software. Also check AppleTalk and Modem control panels that they are not using the same port" I have made sure that Apple Talk is off in the chooser. The Modem control panel is set to Modem port, but then it should be, right? I've now gotten everything confused enough that I can't figure out what to try next. Any assistance greatly appreciated.
