Thanks to the flood of responses to help me backup my Performa and get files over to my lightly attended G4 (what can I say - I love my Performa even if it is on its last breaths).
Here is the path I took. I found a YAMAHA SCSI 8x CDR/CDRW EXTERNAL for PC/MAC with Toast for $63 (including shipping). Excellent condition. I installed the equipment and software today and I was able to burn all my files (everything) onto 4 CDs. Then I copied all the files onto the G4 to ensure that all was in order -I am a happy (much less stressed gal now)......Thanks to all of you!!
