It's also possible that the problem is with the PDF files themselves. There has been a lot of discussion on Webstar's list about the problems with PDF, and especially different versions of PDF documents (4) viewed in different display programs (dozens). The consensus there seemed to be that selecting "Optimize for Fast View" seemed to be the best way to get a uniform response from the various PDF browsers. The location of the command varies across different versions of Acrobat; in Acrobat CS, the current version, it's in the Preferences under the General tab.
