I recommend that dialup users make connection via the modem status icon 
in the menu bar. You can choose to have this present via a checkbox in 
the Modem tab of the Internal Modem area of the Network Preference Pane.

Doing it this way bypasses that error message Chris speaks of.

You might choose to place the Claris Emailer Folder in your User folder. 
That way if you backup the User you will also backup all your mail.
