Anything in OS X that starts with a period is invisible. So a .DS_Store
file is invisible.

The only thing you have to do to make one appear, is use the folder in
some manner that makes the Finder think it needs to store info about that
folder. A .DS_Store file is just a file that lets the Finder know what
your settings are for that folder (such as view, icon size, sort order,
stuff like that).

This means if you open the Temp Incoming folder, it might create a
.DS_Store file. If you copy the Temp Incoming folder to or from an OS X
drive, it might create one. Or sometimes if you sneeze while dancing a
jig, it might create one (in other words, sometimes they are created just
because the Finder felt like it).

Once one is in the Temp Incoming folder, it will prevent Emailer from
unpacking the messages correctly. Emailer will download the messages, but
won't unpack them until a 2nd set of messages has been downloaded (and
then it will do the first but not the 2nd, leaving the 2nd to wait until
another set is downloaded). Quitting and restarting Emailer will force it
to unpack those messages.

Not fatal, but REALLY annoying. Fortuantly, the fix is easy, get rid of
the .DS_Store file. And the easiest way to do that is to throw out the
Temp Incoming folder (make sure it is empty first so you don't
accidentally throw out messages that haven't been unpacked), and then
restart Emailer so it can create a brand new fresh and empty folder. A
good tip is to also close ALL open windows, because I have found that if
Emailer creates the new Temp Incoming folder while its enclosing folder
is open, then the Finder sometimes creates that .DS_Store file again. So
I suggest closing all open folders because it is easier then explaining
specifically which folder to close.
