I didn't mean to trash RCDefaultApp - just have not found it useful - the only times I have needed to make an app default outside of using OSX's own Get Info system, RCDefaultApp has not helped! So I am just not sure what it is supposed to be able to do that OSX can't do on its own??
>In OS 9, I believe the Internet control panel is the place >where Apple wants you to go to select your file association >preferences [though I'm sure the preferences don't stick in >Classic, but it's worth a try]. I always stuck with the >method which preceded the Internet control panel: the >Internet Config control panel. That one was more >comprehensive, giving me more options and more controls. The problem is not not within OS 9 (or Classic) as far as I know as I am trying to open these files in OSX and both apps (Preview and RealPlayer) are OSX apps. But thanks for the tip about the Internet Control Panel - I had forgotten you could assign default apps there (I had usually used another control panel myself - which is no longer there - File Exchange? or some such name???). Anyway, I went to the Internet Control Panel and .jfif files were already specified to open with Preview! So, ALL places, even within RealPlayer's own prefs, Preview is turned on and RealPlayer is turned off - and yet RealPlayer is stated as the "Default" app to open jfif files in Get Info.
