Alex et al, I would like to implement a user interface to a small LCD display like those of Matrix Orbital (http://www.matrixorbital.com/, see the MX4 series for example) and based on the module you wrote, emcsh.cc. There are currently two modules which contain a lot of common code (emcsh.cc and emcrsh.cc), which is my fault because I wrote emcrsh.cc. I did it this way because I did not want to do major surgery (ok, minor surgery) to someone else's code.
What I propose doing is to put all of the functions preceding the comment "EMC command functions" (function "emc_plat") into their own module, and then have 'emcsh', 'emcrsh', and my proposed 'emclcd' (or whatever it ends up being named) all link to this common module. I just did not want to start in on it without some consensus from the group and permission of the original author. With regards to the LCD display, my first cut is going to be fairly simplistic, only supporting a four line by 20 character display and the RS232 interface. The main functions I want to support are jog (initially X and Y only), run / pause / resume / stop, home, program select and a simplistic run time display giving some indication of progress. Then look at genericizing it for different display sizes and interfaces (RS232, I2C, USB, Parallel). Note: I think there would be some value in doing something similar to halcmd.c, IOW split out all of the "do_" functions into their own module, as they are useful independent of halcmd. But one thing at a time. :) Regards, Eric ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys. Earn Cash.
