eh, I wanted to say that :D
Yeah, it seems like the ultimate USB end-device for EMC would be still
a PowerPC processor running realtime linux. heh. So we ended up just
where we started.

But I really adore the idea of havin a LAN-based system, because LAN
is electrically isolated and well insulated, uses twisted pair cables,
runs great lenghts and can use switches for traffic switching. Gbit
LAN wiht a Gbit switch would be genial for controlling whole
manufacturing line from a single PC. More expensive than the parallel
port, but still nice.

As for the processing power of microcontrollers: DSP processors can
have more processing power that a PC processor with less power
consumption.
