Desktop shortcuts and launchers are very dependent on the windowing 
system aren't they?  What happens when someone uses stepconf to build a 
config for a system running KDE or icewm or Xfce instead of Gnome?

If you are going to provide a button that does something Gnome specific, 
then you should figure out how to detect the presence of Gnome, and 
don't display that button if you aren't in a Gnome environment.

Personally I wouldn't bother - let the user make his own icon if he 
wants one.  But then I'm always trying to force users to learn things, 
even when they don't want to.

What does that shortcut do?  Open the config file(s) in an editor?
