Just a sidenote that Ubuntu 6.06LTS (the standard for EMC2 enabled distribution in the past) was forcibly upgraded to current LTS (long-term-support) version. In other words, if it works in the linux distro usually provided on linuxcnc site - it satisfies most novices anyway. Someone who tries to install the EMC2 on his own linux he carefully configured before is already an expert, don't you think? If I had to choose how to install EMC, I would simply download the CD from http://linuxcnc.org/ and I would expect some easy to use (but still allowing rich configuration options) to be included in there.
