You're right - the touch-off switch is mounted at a fixed location and moving 
to that position isnt the problem

This works fine if the tool diameter is much less than the tool length switch 
surface (in my case some 20mm diameter)

if you have a large mill tool, you'd touch off with a flute and not with the 
center - there's no way I'll hit the 20mm diameter switch properly with a 63mm 
mill 

that's where the jog comes in

of course a legit recommendation to fix the problem is 'buy/build a tool length 
switch with a 70mm diameter plate'
