These days you can get 4.7uF or even 10uF ceramic caps with
ultra-low inductance and ESR in a 1206 surface mount package.
Mount it right next to (or on the bottom of the board, directly
under) the driver chip.  Total lead length from driver to cap
and back can be a couple tenths of an inch, or less.
