One thing is to make sure we have the best historical evidence possible 
going all the way
back to NIST's code.  (Hmm, I have some old CDs from Fred Proctor kicking
around here, if there's some use for them.)  Having something that might 
stand up
in court as evidence of the age and provenance of the code might help in 
a legal battle
with some usurper.
