If the assumption is that Rob's code will replace the current motion code, then 
I would agree

however: why not have more than one motion component?

if both the current code and Rob's planner make it into a release, this would 
alleviate fears of breakage, provide an easy way to compare old and new, and 
give the new code a lot more exposure.
