I have Ubuntu 10.04 with LinuxCNC 2.6 running 24/7/365 on two machines and they have never locked up. The only time they go down is when they don't have power...
I have Ubuntu 10.04 on one computer that locks up but that is a motherboard issue and sometimes I can fix it with my air blower to cool and blow the shop dust off the MB. At first I could blow the MB off and the desktop computer would stay on for a month or two but in the end it would lock up and shut down too often to continue trying to use it...
