Because the whole point of the original EMC project was to perform all
control (including realtime) on commodity computing hardware.
There are other controllers that run on micros (Kflop, GRBL).

Some posts back someone said "LinuxCNC will never make it in the
commercial world if...".

You know what? I don't care if it doesn't.
